Care

Handcrafted items carry a unique charm and personal touch. My items are meticulously handcrafted using quality materials, ensuring attention to detail and craftsmanship in every piece. To ensure longevity, avoid overstuffing and carrying excessively heavy items.  While each bag is made with care and attention to detail, they won't last forever, especially if you overstuff them.  If zippers and straps are straining, perhaps you are carrying too much.  Each handbag comes with a 3-month warranty; repairs or a full refund are available for any issues under normal wear & tear.

Lucy Jane Handmade bags are made using Leather, Vinyl, 600-Denier Waterproof Canvas, 400-Denier Nylon Pack Cloth, Waxed Canvas, Decorator or Outdoor Canvas, and Quilting Cotton.  These fabrics were chosen for their quality and durability.  Use the care/cleaning guidelines below to care for your bags.    LucyJaneHandmade bags should never be put in the washing machine.  You can contact me if you have any specific question or concerns.

Quilting Cotton
Primarily used for the lining in the interior of a bag.

Waterproof Canvas/Pack Cloth
Ottertex® Waterproof Canvas fabric is a durable, waterproof fabric.  To clean, brush or wipe any residue. Spray with a mild cleaning solution and gently wipe the fabric clean. Rinse with water and allow the fabric to air dry fully. For more in-depth cleaning instructions, visit https://www.ottertex.com/ottertex-care-cleaning

 400 Denier Nylon Pack Cloth
A versatile medium-weight, flexible nylon fabric. This water repellent nylon fabric has a DWR finish and a clear polyurethane back coating.  To clean, cold or luke warm wash. Tumble dry low. Do not use bleach or fabric softeners. Do not dry clean.

Waxed Canvas
Waxed canvas is durable and water resistant, so it doesn't stain easily and scuffs can blend into the fabric's patina. However, you can clean waxed canvas with a few spot cleaning techniques to remove dirt, oil, and lint:

  • Dirt: Use a soft-bristled brush to gently buff away dirt. You can also try spraying the canvas with cold water.
  • Oil: Apply cornstarch to the stain and let it sit for up to 48 hours to soak up the oil. Then brush it away and repeat if necessary. You can also try mixing cornstarch with cold water and rubbing it into the stain.
  • Lint: Use a lint roller or lint brush to remove lint and other small particles
For tougher spots, add a small amount of mild soap, like castile soap, to cold water and gently scrubbing the area. Avoid using detergent or dish soap, which can break down the wax coating. After cleaning, rinse the canvas with cold water and allow it to air dry. Don't put waxed canvas in the dryer or wash it in the washing machine, as both can damage the wax.
Decorator/Outdoor Canvas
Stains can usually be spot-cleaned by sponging with mild soap and warm water.  Do not use bleach.
Leather
All leather bags come with a dust cover to store in when not in use.
Lambskin—Never use harsh chemicals on lambskin, and avoid getting it wet. Use a leather bag cleaner with a clean, soft cloth and gently massage the leather in a circular motion.
Cowhide—Cowhide is easy to clean.  You can brush it with a damp cloth to enhance its color and shine. You can also use a neutral, high-quality leather cleaner to nourish the leather and protect it from weathering. If you use a cleaner, test it on a small area first to ensure it doesn't damage the leather.  Use a leather conditioner to keep the leather soft and supple, remove dirt and oil, and preserve its luster. Conditioning helps restore the leather's natural oils, which can prevent cracking.
